Peta Murgatroyd Opens Up About Losing the Baby Weight After Her Return to'Dancing With the Stars'
From Redbook
Watching Peta Murgatroyd cha-cha across the stage on last night’s season premiere of Dancing With the Stars, you might not have guessed that she gave birth to her son Shai (with fiancé and fellow DWTS pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy) just over two months ago – because, honestly, what new mom can pull that off? But the difference in her postpartum body is noticeable to the one person whose opinion matters most – the new mom herself.
Murgatroyd, a two-time DWTS champion, didn’t participate in the most recent cycle of the show due to her pregnancy, but she won the Season 22 Mirror Ball and told Us Weekly back in February that she is eager to defend her title. She also opened up to reporters about her post-baby body journey after her first performance since rejoining the dancing competition show.
“I still feel like I’m carrying a little bit of weight, and it’s coming off really slowly,” the pro dancer said in an interview after the Season 24 premiere. “I feel like my body is getting stronger. It’s getting more flexible. I’m faster every day. I think it’s going to take another month or so probably to just fully be back into Peta mode.”
Murgatroyd, who has been paired with former Bachelor star Nick Viall this season, has been candid about the hard work it’s taken to get back into shape since the beginning of her postpartum experience, documenting her progress (along with the realities of her fitness setbacks and #newmomlife) on Instagram.
The 30-year-old dancer, who is blogging for People about her experience this season on DWTS, talked as well about the challenges of being a breastfeeding mom while following the show’s grueling rehearsal schedule.
“I really have to know my schedule the day before, so I can plan out feeds for every four hours and make sure I can go home. Once we finish [rehearsals] I take off and go to get home, but it’s working out well. I just try to spend as much time with Shai as possible,” Murgatroyd said.
